ABOUT ME:
Amber Waite, LCPC, CMPC, CRC
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), and Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC). I earned my BS in Dietetics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I then received a dual-master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling (MA) and Sport and Human Performance (MS) from Adler University in Chicago.
I am dedicated to providing outpatient mental health therapy, specializing in anxiety, depression, life stressors, relationship issues, and athletes/performers. With my athletic background, my experience brings a unique perspective to address mental health challenges faced by athletes both in and out of sports. I also cater to clients who are not athletes who just want help navigating various life stressors. I know that mental health can take a toll on physical and emotional health and the weight can cause significant strain. I am here to help you lift the weight of those stressors and push you towards a lighter and healthier future.

Services
I offer two different types of services- individual therapy and sport/performance consulting. Both of these services are offered in-person or virtually. I am licensed in Illinois only so you must live in the state for individual therapy even if utilizing virtual sessions.
Individual Therapy
My background consists of working in outpatient mental health clinics and some group settings within club sports. I work with my clients in a compassionate and collaborative effort to promote resiliency and self-determination. I believe in building a strong rapport with my clients so that each client feels comfortable working through their greatest concerns. I strive to empower clients throughout their journey, whether they are new to therapy or are continuing to grow.

Sport/Performance Consulting
I have specialized training in sport psychology through the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP). I am a Certified Mental Performance Consultant ® (CMPC) and specialize in helping athletes achieve their fullest athletic potential in their mental state. I've worked with teen athletes in various sports on developing tools to support their mental health within their performance environment. I am continuing to expand my skills in working with the mental side of injury recovery.
I have worked with individuals in baseball, basketball, golf, rowing, tennis, wrestling, swim, football, soccer, field hockey, performing arts, gymnastics, and track/cross country. I am an ultimate frisbee athlete myself and enjoy working with all different sports!

Consulting or Counseling- Which is right for me?
Mental performance consulting focuses on building mental skills specifically within the sport setting. Examples of symptoms an athlete might be experiencing include: performance anxiety, low self-confidence, challenges managing pressure, overthinking, and attention difficulties. Mental performance consulting focuses on teaching athletes and performers skills to improve these symptoms such as stress management, relaxation skills, imagery, goal-setting, mental rehearsal, and positive self-talk.
Mental health counseling focuses on improving symptoms that impair a client's daily functioning that is not specific to just the sport setting. These include symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic, etc. that are present beyond just the sport environment. Please reach out if you would like to talk through the difference to see which service is the most appropriate for you. Please note, I cannot ethically provide both at the same time. If a client is seeing me for mental performance consulting and more symptoms become present outside of the sport context, I will need to make a referral to another therapist.

Billing & Insurance

Insurance Information
For individual therapy, I am currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO and Blue Choice PPO. I can verify your insurance benefits prior to our initial session; however, it is the client's responsibility to confirm whether I am in-network. The best way to do this is by calling the customer service number on the back of your insurance card. You can also utilize the online provider lookup system through Blue Cross Blue Shield. All copays and deductibles are set by each insurance policy. You are still responsible for any remaining payments after each claim is processed. For out-of-network benefits, a superbill with the out-of-pocket fee will be provided to you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please note, if you are utilizing sport/performance consulting services, insurance does not cover these services. Please see the sport/performance consulting fees below.
Fees Without Insurance and for Sport/Performance Consulting
The out-of-pocket fee for the initial intake session (55-60 min) for both individual therapy and sport/performance consulting is $210. All following sessions (50 mins) are $185. I accept all major credit cards and payments are due at the time of service.
Cancellation and No-Show Policy
Please notify me with at least 24 hour notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. If you do not provide at least a 24 hour notice or you do not attend a scheduled appointment, you will be charged a $150 cancellation/no-show fee.
